Abstract: In 2001, BHP, an Australian 'natural resources company' and Billiton, a British mining company, merged to form the world's largest mining company – the BHP Billiton Group. Since its formation, the group has been focusing on global expansions, leveraging on BHP's expertise in natural resources and Billiton's vast experience in the mining industry. By June 2004, the group had a market capitalisation of US$54 billion.
